Twelfth Night
by William Shakespeare
directed by Noah Brody and Ben Steinfeld
Shipwrecked on the island of Illyria, Viola and her twin brother Sebastian are separated, each fearing the other lost to the sea. Viola disguises herself as a boy and wades into a complex romantic triangle with Duke Orsino and the Countess Olivia.
Fiasco Theater brought its hallmark style and expansive imagination to one of Shakespeare's most celebrated comedies. The company had two distinct productions of Twelfth Night: the first was with Access Theater in the spring and summer of 2010, and the second was with Classic Stage Company in the winter of 2017 and 2018.

“Fiasco’s priorities seem to spring from the mindset of actors who deeply love Shakespeare and long to communicate this material’s great gifts and joys. Brody, Steinfeld, and their fellow ensemble members value textual clarity, enthusiastic storytelling, and energetic forward motion (the production is two-and-a-half hours long but feels swift and buoyant throughout).”

“The magic of Fiasco comes not simply from textual and physical simplification; cut-down classics can be flat and dull-pated…Fiasco cuts down the cast for simplification and the physical trappings for focus, yes; but their aim seems to be to inflate the evenings with life and fun.”

“Fiasco Theater company takes its name from the commedia dell’arte term for a performance that goes off the rails. Taking that concept to heart, the company's goal is to create performances that hit that sweet spot just before everything falls apart, which mark they hit pretty consistently…It's a wild ride well worth the taking.”
